October 2006

With the arrival of Fall, change is in the air. At Jonas Everets Design this is no exception. We have been busy with some spectacular projects. This month we're featuring a classic venetian plaster in a Southampton mansion. You'll also see, in this issue, a preview of Jonas's latest painting. And last, but certainly not least, we're giving you a glimpse of the new materials section on our website, which will help you envision some changes of your own.

Recent Project-  Venetian Plaster in Southampton for Robert Couturier

The most stunning project we have done to date was is JP Morgan's old mansion in Southampton for Robert Couturier. This was an especially exciting home for us because of its long history of elegance and stature. After its recent renovation we put our touches on a vast amount of the living space. The design choice was a blue Venetian plaster buffed to a high shine. One of the great things about Venetian Plaster is the appearance of texture and translucence of color. Although the finished walls are perfectly smooth, the final appearance is rich in tonal variation. To view the whole project take a look at our website under the menu heading "projects". We are so proud of this project that we did a huge spread on it.

We are excited to show you the newest addition to our website. Now you can see twelve different examples of various materials and finishes. We've included everything from Venetian Plaster to Coccio Pesto, smooth surfaces to textured, matte to highly shined. As always, these examples can be custom made for you or just used as a starting point to find the perfect finish for your project. Look at them and imagine. The color can be matched to a leaf on a tree, the glaze of a tile or anything else you can imagine. The possibilities are endless. Once you decide on your favorites Jonas will sit down with you and brainstorm. He will then customize a selection of samples for you. To get started, see the complete version with all 24 images on the materials section at jonaseveretsdesign.com. And, if you have any questions or would like to schedule a consultation with Jonas you can email him directly at jonas@jonaseveretsdesign.com. Of course, we'll be updating our materials section with new images as time goes on so keep checking back for new ideas.

Shell Painting

2006                                          acrylic, canvas, silkscreen, vellum  120 x 96"

With summer still so fresh in my memory, this painting seems very relevant to me. Jonas begins by using a plaid pattern reminiscent of a polished cotton used in an interior. He then carefully and painstakingly layers an image of a spiny shell and then places an even sprinkle of ornamental designs across the surface. The result is both sensual and scientific, feminine and masculine, hard and soft. Jonas's paintings have a familiarity to them. Perhaps this is because the imagery is so specific yet also very familiar to the broad reach of humanity. There are contradictions as well as similarities. There is always a pull and push of opposites ultimately presented in complete balance. In the end, it is the beautiful first impression that draws me in, the layers of content that keep me looking and finally the harmony of it all that brings me back.
