Being Inside Never Felt So Good!

Jonas Everets Design has made being indoors feel natural. Outdoor geometry is brought inside with a custom hand carved reed pattern in a continuous plaster frieze. Jonas designed this for a home in Westchester County for Designer Robert Couturier.

The contemporary use of the plaster frieze revitalizes the timeless notion of ancient antiquities while retaining a balanced palette of current interior design elements. Jonas toned down the flat white of the plaster by finishing the panels with a soft glaze. A slight sheen emerges from this application, which enhances its three-dimensional hand carved subtleties.

The hand tailored, three dimensional reed design, passes through all the corners of the living room, adding to the custom friezes exclusive sophistication. The perspective of the room is extenuated through the continuous pattern as well as giving a framework to the adjoining room, especially through the archway.

Plaster Frieze Design Process

The process began with detailed concept drawings and progressed through different design stages from custom made templates and hand tooled wax carvings to rubber molds and finally to the finished panels. The resulting panels have a substantial yet delicate appearance that reflects the nuances of a custom, hand crafted product.
